Story of Erlira Latifi
Erlira Latifi was born on May 23, 1990 (Gemini) in Prishtina, Kosovo. At a young age—around three—she fled with her family to Frankfurt, Germany. Growing up between two opposing cultures, she never fully felt accepted in either. Sexism and racism were ever-present, and neither place truly felt like home.
Over time, she came to understand that home—the safe space of being—lives within her own body. As this realization deepened, rigid ideas of culture and nationality dissolved, bringing her closer to her innate naturalness and, with it, spirituality. Dance and movement became her refuge: a way to escape the outer world and return to herself, creating a safe space to simply be in a world she never quite felt aligned with.
Her father, Isak Latifi, a 5th Dan karate master, introduced her to martial arts. From ages six to twelve, she practiced karate, cultivating deep core strength, discipline, and embodied presence—qualities that continue to inform all her movement practices. Yet dance has always been the stronger force in her spirit. At six years old, she remembers creating her first choreography alone in her room to German folk music playing on the radio. At fifteen, she finally began taking Hip Hop classes in Frankfurt am Main. She trained with Brothers & Stylez and later performed and taught at Stylez and Elements. Her relationship to Hip Hop dance shifted profoundly when she stepped away from choreography and immersed herself in freestyle at Cipher Dojo, a well-known Hip Hop dance school led by one of her greatest inspirations, Edwin Batalla—a world-renowned Hip Hop dancer and community creator. Freestyle dance deepened the inward-looking aspect of her movement and became a powerful tool to channel stored emotions.
Erlira has danced for brands such as Puma and performed on national and international stages, yet her relationship to dance and movement has always remained inward-facing. For her, movement is a tool for liberation, resistance, and remembrance of one’s own truth—an act of returning to wholeness. Her journey has grown through Hip Hop, House, and Locking, and later expanded into Waacking, Vogueing, Contemporary, and Pole Dance, embracing power, experimentation, and femininity.
At twenty-six, she discovered surfing—a turning point that redirected her life. This path led her to Peniche, Portugal, surrounded by over 90 km of coastline, where the wild vastness finally felt like home. A small village with a slow rhythm, held by the ocean. The sea became another profound teacher of movement, strength, and flow, further deepening her spirituality. Rooted in freestyle Hip Hop and guided by her Gemini nature, she refuses to be confined to a single style or practice. Instead, she follows her many interests with one underlying intention: wholeness.
